A Dialogue Through Brown Faces, White Spaces

This class will explore content based on Latasha Morrison’s new book Brown Faces, White Spaces. Pastor Dorena will facilitate and be joined by expert guest speakers.

We might think of systemic racism as an unfortunate part of American history, something that happened back in the day. But the systems were never truly dismantled in our country, leaving artifacts of injustice that continue to affect every aspect of life for Black and Brown Americans.

Many of us feel overwhelmed by the problem, unsure how we can make a difference. Yet God calls the church to stand firmly committed to racial reconciliation—and for each one of us to make choices that lead to healing.

In Brown Faces, White Spaces, Latasha Morrison—a speaker, bridge builder, and champion for unity—explores nine aspects of American life where systemic racism still flourishes, including education, healthcare, the justice system, entertainment, and the church. Through story, historical context, and present realities, Morrison looks at what it means to recognize and confess the truth about inequities in the system (preparation), commit ourselves to changing the system (dedication), and move into true freedom as a society (liberation).

This series of classes offers biblical principles and practical tools with the goal of enabling individuals and families to experience clarity and confidence around their finances and learn to live generously.

Join our Women’s Ministry Team as we walk through the book:

What happens when God chooses you to deal with failures from someone else’s past? As we journey through Espresso with Esther, we tackle this and other challenges women face, including:

· trusting God when He’s silent.

· developing strength and character in trials.

· cultivating grace and acquiring wisdom under pressure.

· using our voice and influence to challenge injustice.

· How does this apply to us today?

· How do we handle our ‘Esther” moments today?

We’ll use handouts for discussion topics from various chapters from the book, but if you prefer to have a book, the cost is $10.99.
